A Seattle native and 30-year residential broker, JJ Johnston is affiliated with RE/MAX Northwest REALTORS in Kirkland specializing in both pre-owned upscale properties on Seattle’s Eastside and new home builder communities. He began his career in 1986 as an exclusive on-site home builder representative with Windermere Builder Services. In 1991 JJ added the listing and selling of pre-owned homes to his business in the areas of Seattle’s Eastside. Joining RE/MAX in 2002, he was inducted into the RE/MAX International Hall Of Fame in 2005, and recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award. JJ has also been included in an elite group of Seattle area real estate professionals selected by Seattle Magazine as a FIVE STAR Best In Client Satisfaction Real Estate Agent in 2007 & 2010 by an independent survey of subscribers, industry experts and homebuyers.

JJ attended the University of Virginia, is a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity, served in the U.S. Army, and played semi-professional soccer for a town in southwestern Germany. He belongs to the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) and his HO scale home layout of the “Puget Sound Iron Goat Railway” has appeared in international and national model railroad magazines.

As a member of the Master Builder’s Association of King & Snohomish Counties (MBA) JJ has served as Chair of the Parade of Homes, Children’s Playhouses for four years, the Merchandising And Marketing Excellence (MAME) Awards and the Sales & Marketing Council (SMC). As SMC Chair, he received the award for the best SMC in the country from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). JJ has served as a Director and an Officer on the MBA Board of Directors. In 1999, he was recognized as the MBA Associate Member of the Year. JJ frequently does outside consulting work for builders, and is a popular speaker requested at numerous REALTOR events. He was elected to the 2010 Board of Directors for the Seattle King County Association of REALTORS. Also in 2010, he received the Hall Of Fame Tribute Award from the Washington State New Home Council for his body of work in the new home sales and marketing industry. Then in 2015, JJ was presented with The Legend Award from the New Home Council for his years of service, his unique brand and leadership in the residential real estate community. He is the seventh person to receive this honor.

He has been recognized nationally for his unique sales and marketing campaigns with over twenty nominations and winning four Gold MAME Awards from the MBA and two Gold Nationals from the NAHB. Through the years, JJ has been invited to be a judge for the new residential home MAME Awards in Canada, Oregon and California as well as a judge for the NAHB Nationals Award competition.

For over 25 years, JJ was a Certified Instructor approved by the State of Washington Licensing Department to teach Real Estate Sales & Marketing, Ethics & Standards of Practice and Construction & Land Development. He created and taught “Power Selling & Creative Marketing Strategies For New Home Builders” and “The World’s Greatest Sales Techniques” under the auspices of the Washington Realtors (WR) and the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW).

JJ is married to Patt Sellen, who assists in his business, and they reside in Bellevue. Their daughter Cami, is also a REALTOR and son Jeff is a mortgage banker with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation in Kirkland.
